Faculty and Staff Travel to Japan for Global Nursing Initiative

ROCKFORD, Ill—Faculty and staff from Saint Anthony College of Nursing and OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center are heading to Japan this week for a global nursing initiative.  Elizabeth Carson,EdD, RN, CNE, Linda Matheson, PhD, RN,  Gordana Dermody, MSN, RN, CNL, and Dr. Asako Katsumata, PhD, RN, ME, CNL, will be visiting Japan from May 18-31.

The group will be presenting nursing leadership development seminars to their Japanese counterparts about several topics including advance care planning, parish nursing, incivility in the nursing profession, nursing leadership and the clinical nurse leader role.   The college has partnered with the Japanese Red Cross Society, Kyoto University, Toyama University and Tsukuba University. 

This is the fourth visit to Japan for the college faculty.  The goal of this partnership is to address advancement in the nursing profession in the areas of clinical, leadership and scholarship.   In July, Japanese nurse leaders and physicians from partner organizations will be visiting Saint Anthony College of Nursing and OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.  They will attend two week-long seminars to learn about the Magnet Credentialing for hospitals, advanced nursing roles and clinical nurse leader faculty developments.  They will also be participating in the Second International Forum on July 31.   There will be three nurse leaders from the US and two Japanese nurse leaders presenting about emerging nursing issues.
